Rego Park, Queens residents, rejoice! You no longer have to make the trek to Red Hook Brooklyn to go to your favorite Swedish superstore. The borough of Queens will soon be getting its very own Ikea in the summer of 2020!
Seven months after opening the doors of its Upper East Side “planning studio,” the Swedish home goods giant has announced that it’s bringing a brand new store to the Queens’s Rego Center mall.
Strategically located at the corner of Queens and Junction Boulevards, and readily accessible to public transportation, the 115,000square-foot store will offer several services, including assembly, installation, and home delivery, as well as many food options “to allow guests to enjoy a modern taste of Sweden on the go,” a statement from the company says. The store will have Ikea products for purchase and takeaway, but larger furniture items will only be on display and available for delivery.
“With a growing community of more than 900,000 households, Queens was a natural next destination for Ikea in New York City,” Leontyne Green Sykes, Ikea Retail U.S. chief operating officer, said in a statement. “We know that more than half of Queens’ residents travel via public transportation, and we selected Rego Park for this new store concept to meet the unique needs of this customer.”
The store is slated to open in the summer of 2020, and it will join the two other Ikea locations in New York City, including the Upper East Side store and the more significant Red Hook outpost.
